BTAA (Brain Tumour Alliance Australia) Patient Advocate Network Summit Consumer Forum | 22 October 2015
Brain Tumour Alliance Australia partnered with the Cancer Council Queensland and the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation to present a forum for patients and carers in association with International Brain Tumour Awareness Week 2015.
The keynote speaker was Neuro-oncologist Professor Martin van den Bent from the Brain Tumour Center at Erasmus MC Cancer Center who presented the topic of “What is new in the treatment of primary brain tumours. See the video of his presentation here
Michelle Stewart, Head of Research Strategy, Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, provides an insight on the importance of clinical trials in the Australian context and the work Cure Brain Cancer Foundation undertakes. See her presentation here.The expert panel addresses some of the practical aspects of living with a brain tumour, including psychological support strategies, managing day to day with everyday tasks, tips on communicating more effectively with treating teams and coping when a child has a brain tumour. The panel included A/Prof Tamara Ownsworth, Dr Danette Langbecker, QUT, Karen Prain from Brainchild Foundation and Kate Brennan, Occupational Therapist from Princess Alexandra Hospital.
