Jack's Story

Jack was one of six sons of Ken Fleming. He was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) in July 2016 and died in April 2018, 22 months into his battle, and aged just 21.

Ken has written a book that tells the story of the family’s fight (and eventual loss) to save Jack's life. He told Jack he would save his life and write a book, and has kept one of those promises.

Ken has built a website celebrating Jack’s short life and providing information on the book as well as his focus now to find a cure for this dreadful disease and stop it from stealing our children.

Ken is working with two clinicians/academics and NSW Health to provide money for research through Brainstorm (https://www.slhd.nsw.gov.au/RPA/brainstorm/). Dr Manuel Graeber and Dr Michael Buckland undertook some forensic pathology on Jack’s tumour when he was first diagnosed and identified a key marker, and also that Jack’s tumour was “paediatric GBM” (a factor unknown at the time and resulted in immediately changing his treatment).
