Governance

BTAA is the national peak advocacy body for people living with brain tumours and their caregivers. Established in 2008 by patients, carers and families, BTAA is a not‑for‑profit charity dedicated to improving support, information and advocacy for everyone affected by brain and central nervous system (CNS) tumours — including tumours of the brain, spine and meninges.

As a national, incorporated health charity, BTAA is registered with the Australian Charities and Not‑for‑profits Commission (ACNC) and endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR). This means donations of $2 or more are tax‑deductible.

BTAA is governed by a volunteer Board, ensuring strong leadership, transparency and accountability in line with Australian charity and fundraising regulations.

BTAA’s Constitution

BTAA Rules 2026

The Statement of Objects and BTAA Rules is a document that explains what the Brain Tumour Alliance Australia (BTAA) exists to do and how it operates.

It sets out BTAA’s purpose and goals. It explains why the organisation was set up, what it aims to achieve, and who it serves (for example, supporting people affected by brain tumours and advocating for better care and research).

It outlines the formal guidelines for how BTAA runs, describing things like how members join, how the Board is elected, how meetings are held, how decisions are made, and how finances and records are managed.

Together, the document acts as BTAA’s constitution. It’s a legal requirement for incorporated associations and ensures the organisation is transparent, accountable, and operates according to its stated purpose.
