Follow up and Monitoring

After a brain tumour diagnosis, regular follow‑up appointments are an important part of care. These visits help your team check your recovery, monitor for any signs that the tumour has returned or changed, and support your overall wellbeing. They’re also a good opportunity to talk about symptoms, side effects, daily challenges and emotional health.

Follow‑up schedules look different for everyone, depending on the type of tumour and the treatment you’ve had. They may include:

  • MRI or CT scans every few months at first, then less often over time
  • Physical and neurological checks to monitor movement, speech, memory and coordination
  • Blood tests or medication reviews to manage ongoing treatment or side effects
  • Conversations about rehabilitation, fatigue and day‑to‑day functioning

It’s important to attend all follow‑up appointments, even when you’re feeling well. Scans can sometimes detect changes before symptoms appear. Keeping a simple record of your appointments, test results and any new symptoms can help you feel more organised and make discussions with your care team easier.
