We are creating a powerful shoe installation inside Parliament House to honour the many people whose lives have been changed by a brain tumour. Each pair of shoes represents someone’s story — a life lived, a journey interrupted, a family forever impacted.
By displaying everyday shoes alongside a short description of the person they symbolise, we aim to make the invisible visible. This installation turns something ordinary into a deeply moving reminder of the real people behind the statistics, and the urgency for change.
You are invited to send us a pair of shoes that represents yourself or someone you know who has been affected by a brain tumour. If possible, choose shoes that reflect the person’s personality or interests (for example, running shoes for someone who loved to run).

Important Information
Shoes cannot be returned
Unless you tell us otherwise, your shoes may be used in future displays.
If sending shoes is difficult for you
You may instead provide a description of the shoes you or your loved one would have chosen. We will do our best to match this from our existing collection.
We cannot confirm receipt of shoes
Due to the large number of parcels we receive, we are unable to notify you when your shoes arrive. If you are concerned about delivery, please use a tracked postage option.
If you have sent shoes in previous years
Your shoes will be displayed again. You do not need to resend them or provide a new bio. We understand that circumstances may have changed, but we are unable to update previous bios due to the volume we hold.
Tips for writing a short, meaningful bio
To keep it concise and powerful, you may want to include:
- Who they are (e.g., parent, child, partner, friend)
- A few key details (age, interests, personality)
- Their connection to brain tumours
- Why these shoes matter (e.g., “He ran every morning,” “She wore these to work,” “These symbolise her strength”)
- One sentence that captures their spirit
Aim for 3–5 short sentences.
Simple, heartfelt and focused is best.
Sending Your Shoes
Please follow these steps when preparing your shoes:
- Zip tie the shoes together
- Label both shoes with the person’s full name
- Write on the sole with a permanent marker, or
- Attach a paper label or luggage tag
